Interest-Based Bargaining

 

Interest-based bargaining, IBB, is a strategy choice available to union and management negotiating teams.  Interest-based bargaining frames negotiation as mutual problem-solving.  The process offers an alternative approach to traditional positional negotiation.  When handled skillfully, it can be a source of learning, leading to innovative outcomes and  improved union-management working relationships as a result of effective negotiation.
